Vision, Mission, Goals

Vision, Mission and Goals

Vision

Washington, DC has one of the largest and most diverse GLBT communities in the nation. The Office of GLBT Affairs will work with the community and represent and advocate for the community's varied interests to government agencies and officials at every level. The Office of GLBT Affairs envisions a community that is totally integrated into the civil and economic life of the District of Columbia.

Mission

The Mission of the Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Affairs is to provide constituent services and information to the GLBT communities through community outreach, public education activities and to advise the Mayor and the DC Government on the needs of the GLBT residents of the District of Columbia.

Goals

  • Broaden the knowledge and awareness of the contributions and needs of GLBT youth
  • Improve the safety of GLBT youth in the public school system
  • Improve interactions between the transgender community and public safety personnel
  • Develop a plan to ensure that District agencies are effectively addressing GLBT aging concerns within their areas of focus
